SYSTAN has been involved with paratransit operations since the first dial-a-ride systems were developed in the early 70's. Over the years the firm has reviewed planning models, surveyed system software, prepared area-wide plans, recommended institutional structures, written system specifications, developed regional policies and authored a widely distributed paratransit system handbook.REPRESENTATIVE PROJECTS Paratransit Handbook. Developed a handbook to aid public officials, planners and system operators in planning, designing, implementing, operating and evaluating paratransit systems. The handbook includes a state-of-the-art review, as well as a compendium of techniques and experience drawn from existing dial-a-ride and shared-ride taxi services. (Client: U.S. DOT Transportation Systems Center) Software Requirements for Demand-Responsive Transit. Surveyed demand-responsive system operators and reviewed existing software to specify future software requirements for the management and operation of demand responsive systems. Developed a handbook to help transportation providers procure and implement system software. (Client: Transit Cooperative Research Program) Paratransit Model Assessment. Undertook a comprehensive survey of the analytic tools developed for paratransit planning. Compared the performance of existing supply and demand models, and outlined future directions for model development. (Client: Transportation Systems Center) Shared-Ride Taxi Handbook. SYSTAN prepared a how-to-do-it manual to assist taxi operators in offering shared-ride service. The manual covers fares, driver training, marketing, vehicles, meters, planning, government relations, and other topics. (Client: Transportation Research Board) Contra Costa County Paratransit Plan. Developed a long-range plan for paratransit services in Contra Costa County which consolidated multiple providers and coordinated services. The project led to a politically sensitive recommendation for unification which was successfully implemented. (Client: Central Contra Costa Transit Authority) Antelope Valley Transit Study. Helped to identify user needs and recommend changes in the Antelope Valley's fixed-route and paratransit systems. (Client: Los Angeles County Transportation Commission) |
